What is the history of Parallel Worlds?
Parallel Worlds began Friday August 15, 2001. Zuri R. Wilson (president and master of ceremony) was approached by Robbie Hopkins who asked if she would like to take poetry to another level. During this time Zuri was the master of ceremony at Mr. B's Lounge for open mic night on Thursdays. She was introduced to Ms. Kim Mitchelle of The City of Columbia for Parks & Recreation. Ms. Mitchelle was her advisor and mentor of Parallel Worlds Productions. They created a family and friends oriented atmosphere of poetry, drumming, deejaying, and vending. In addition, many productions were celebrated in various venues such as, The Water Mark Cafe (above Findly Park), Arsenal Hill Club House (behind the governor's mansion), and Earl Wood Park. The first anniversary was held at Earl Wood Park. It was an evening of vending, a voter registration drive, several gifted poets, musicians, and music artists. That evening on Friday August 15, 2002 everyone celebrated the finale theme of "Freedom," and it was a free event because the Parallel Worlds Crew wanted to give back to the community for all of the love and support. Thanks to Robbie Hopkins for approaching Zuri Wilson, and Kim Mitchelle for giving her the opportunity to pave the road of a loving family which is the crew: Deejay Kingpin, Drummer and Co-host Malik Whitaker, and the Hostess herself Zuri Wilson.
